M. Bumin Yenmez joined the WUSTL Department of Economics as a professor in July 2023. He studies economic design, focusing on topics such as affirmative action, diversity, externalities, and fairness. Policies that he helped design have been adopted in various settings, such as assigning students to schools in New York and Chile, and state-level vaccine allocation. His work has been published in leading economics journals such as the American Economic Review and Econometrica. Previously he taught at Boston College and Carnegie Mellon University and worked as a researcher at Microsoft Research-New England. He currently serves as an editor at the Journal of Economic Theory. He received his bachelor's degree at the California Institute of Technology and his doctorate at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
