Ph.D. in Demography - the University of Pennsylvania
The Graduate Group in Demography at the University of Pennsylvania is now accepting applications for its Ph.D. program in Demography. We look forward to recruiting a strong and diverse cohort for Fall 2026! Applications are due December 15, 2025.
Penn Demography continues its longstanding tradition of excellence with award-winning, distinguished faculty recognized for their scholarly achievements and leadership in the field. With support from both the university and the NIH, Penn Demography trains independent researchers who are prepared to play leading roles in social demography and population studies in leading universities and a variety of other organizations. Graduates have a firm grasp of both the substance and methods of study in formal and social demography and population sciences (mortality, fertility, migration, family, population aging, and demographic-economic interrelations) from both a domestic and international perspective. Students engage with NIH-funded faculty projects at the Population Studies Center and across the university, and also have an opportunity to obtain a joint degree in demography and sociology.

WashU: Pre-Grad Advising
Are you curious about the world? Have you ever wondered what it takes to create, and not just consume, knowledge? Have you ever thought about working in a university, a think-tank, a major laboratory or library, or an organization that creates policies that really work? If you answered yes to any of these questions, graduate school is for you.
You might wonder if graduate or professional school is right for you. Students considering applying often need more information about costs, funding options, or even which programs to have on their list. Or you might know you want to continue your education, but you want help navigating the application process. Students might need guidance about timelines, how to prepare strong application materials, or how to make a decision after offers are extended. This webpage is a launching pad to get you started.
The ArtSci College Office is collaborating with the Writing Center to offer in-person and Zoom-based workshop sessions to help students with their application process and preparing their materials. Sessions include: preparing a "Statement of Intent," requesting letters of recommendation, and editing the CV.
